Emotional Damage
PLEASE GIVE SOME TIME TO LOAD. IT CAN TAKE A MINUTE.
[UPDATE : The browser version is now working on Windows! Let me know if you have any issues. Load times may be a tiny bit slower.]
Emotional Damage is a unique 2D side-scrolling shooter where you face off against an unrelenting therapist, launching question-based attack patterns designed to break your mental defenses. As the Ego, you must equip defense mechanisms like Rationalisation, Projection, and Dissociation and more to deflect the questions and protect your emotional cores.
Navigate waves of psychological onslaughts with strategic planning, quick reflexes, and a dash of dark humour. The game features an escalating dialogue system where every round unearths deeper layers of introspection—or avoidance—culminating in a final showdown against your own psyche. Will you emerge victorious or come undone?
Inspired by my own experiences with psychodynamic therapy.
Gameplay Tips
Easy difficulty is for anyone not interested in a challenge but perhaps more interested in the dialogue.
Normal and Hard should encourage you to use all your abilities during combat.
(I heavily recommend hard) :)
Press Escape or Pause on a controller to reach the Pause menu whenever the bottom left icon is green and active. Tutorials and control info are in the pause menu!

UPDATE 2.0 : Sprite Atlases for the client and therapist seem to fail to load if you're playing the browser version on Firefox and on a Mac computer. So if you would like to play the HTML version within Itch.io and you use a Mac, please just use an alternative browser! Safari seems to work fine, as does Chrome :)
